Fridge

Post by ricicles »

Getting ready for our hols and find our fridge has died! Had a bloke look at it and he says it is not repairable :?
As we have only just got this info we are now super short of time to order a new one and fit it, So I grab a 12v cool box that works great but the battery started to give up after a day and a half of use. I have checked the consumption of said cool box and it is 7.5w so calcs work out to .625 amp hrs I fink? That's only 15 per day. If I bung on a solar panel of 46w do you clever bunch think it will keep my beer cool for the week? Oh the battery is 85ah.
Toodles :ok

Are you sure about that power consumption? I have a small 12v coolbox, that is 32w on cooling, a quick look on Amazon suggests 30-40w is normal. 3-4 amp consumption would fit with your battery going flat in a day or so. The solar panel would help, but won't do much at night...

These things always happen before holidays. Has it definitely given up the ghost on battery, mains and gas?

I would go for the solar panel and coolbox option as you dont need to cool it over night anyway.
Put in some of those blue freezer brick things (or some frozen bottles of water) and stick it outside the van overnight.

Thanks for the feedback guys, it turns out that the cool box is in fact 47 watt consumption. As for the fridge the chap who was very keen to repair it ,has had it for a week and is telling me it's unrepairable coz he cannot hear coolant "sloshing" around when he turns it upside down. However I did the upside down an on side fix and could hear it. I think he is a bit of a spanner and to lazy to do the job now.
Thanks for your help any way. Next question up will be a reliable fridge repairer in east anglia.
