Cutting my roof! Roof vent/light fitting

Post by Reimotim »

Hi Guys,

So... leaking roof vent/light since I got my van a few years back. After several years of mastik and bodging repairs, I have decided to fit a new one. However it appears that Reimo fitted a size that is no longer available. The upshot of which is that I can't fit a 400x400 cos the hole is to big, but it is too small for a 500x500.

This means that I will need to enlarge the hole in my hitop roof. Question is will it be ok to jigsaw it? I 'm worried about cracking the roof and am just after reassurance and/or any tips from those more experienced than myself.

Thanks for looking

Tim,
I've just enlarged one on mine and I used a jigsaw no problem.
I did use a small toothed blade so the cut was smoother.
I would check what you have to cut first as I fitted a 400 x 400 but hole was smaller as its the top that's sized not the hole.

Don't forget you may have to alter your wooden frame inside as well.

Hi Andy,

Glad to know yours went well.

I'll definitely need to sort the wooden frame as it is a rather crumbly, flaky mess at the mo!

If its a pop top you can't go bigger because there are steel strenghting bars that run either side. I have a brand new fiamma roof vent white you can have for £25. I brought it for mine but was slightly too large. Image its 390mmx390mmx50mm

Thanks for the offer Toby :ok
I've got a hitop, so I'm hoping it'll be ok.
I'll let you know.

Well, after a Sunday afternoon and some time with a jigsaw, I have a newly installed fiamma 50x50.
