Help ref diesel injection pump on 1Y conversion

Post by Jetfitzmaurice »

Hi, I'm in week 3 of my 1.6cs to 1Y engine conversion, I'm just about to bolt the 1Y back in (new clutch, water & oil pump, cam & crank seals etc) but I'm still unsure as to the exact procedure with reference to the immobilisation on the diesel pump. Mine's a Bosch unit and I've looked at different walkthroughs and how to's both on here and brickyard, google etc and it seems to vary. Some people say you hit it with a hammer and chisel others say you need to remove the pump and disassemble it, some don't mention it at all :? So what DO I need to do to get this up and running? Any help would be hugely appreciated as it's been a long few weeks of evenings and weekends and energy levels are now flagging somewhat :D
Cheers chaps, James

On mine I just ignored everything except the fuel cutoff solenoid. If I were you I would do the same - if you cannot start due to it then take it off. My 1Y was off a 98 Caddy but don't even know if an immobiliser was connected originally and didn't bother worrying about it as it all works fine! :D
I changed the cold start back to cable operation though, that coupled with the throttle lever arm and cable fixing is the only alteration I made on the pump.
