Morning all,
Can someone please advise if this is worth keeping? Given to me by my Dad and wondered if suitable for body repairs, specifically cab steps. I have a hole!
Included were a box of 2mm and 2.5mm rods.
Thanks
Steve
Arc welders can be used but they do run very hot for body panels. If you do want to try put a thick bit of aluminium behind the steel to act as a heat sink , the weld will not stick to the alloy and it will soak up the excess heat.
A mig or tig is a more suitable welder
Looks like an ALDI one. They're ok for heavy stuff. I used mine to weld new rear spring mounts at the back - did a great job. Easier than the MIG to be honest and no gas needed. No good for body panels though.

I just use mine for a carbon arc torch for brazing nowadays and also the odd bit of heavy stuff. I had it out for welding up my stainless steel rudder last year.
