Missing hose on heating system?! INCLUDES PRETTY PICTURES!

Post by chuggers72 »

Evening All

Find attached a few pics with a couple of questions! I was having a tinker and spotted something that has confused me (easily done) however this pic explains:

overview with pipe for forum_.gif

FIRST QUESTION is should there be any hoses running in/out from B and C?
Thee thin hose (A) runs from the air filter and disappears into it.

So I took the unit out:

unit removed.gif

On this unit there is an inlet (D) on what looks like a thermostat of some kind:

unknown inlet.gif

SECOND QUESTION Should the thin hose that runs from the air filter that disappeared into the housing be attached to this (because it wasn't)?

THIRD QUESTION What is this thermostat like thing? I have had a look in the Haynes and could not see it.

I know someone will know the answers - please enlighten me. :ok

This is to select hot or cold air for the intake, originally there would have trunking attached to the two inlets, but leaving them all disconnected has no apparent effect, at least not in the temperate UK.

OK - so am I right in thinking theres no need to bother reinstating them? Even the thin white pipe that runs to the air filter?

Is the right answer..none of that is really needed in the UK
I have junked the lot

Make sure there are no open ended vacuum pipes returning to the carb
This will affect performance

Yes, pull the thin plastic hose (arrowed) out of the short rubber piece and use a screw or similar to seal the end of the rubber piece.

Or better still imo trace the other thin pipe from the air filter to the carb and seal it off at the carb, no point leaving the extra vac hose connected its doing nothing and is two or three more things to fail in future causing problems

Maybe a silly question - if I remove the vac hose do I then seal off the two outlets on the air filter housing as well?

No the unit only operates a flap under vacuum to divert hot air, its not needed, the important thing is the carb must not have an air leak so every thing joined to it is a risk of fault, cap off at the carb is best

You can just see mine capped off here at the bottom of the pic with an m5 stud/screw wound into the rubber pipe

I know what I'm looking at but still don't see it in your pic (just pointing it out for the benefit if others).
