Help ! Cv's

Post by T25Ant »

Hi guys!

I know hacksaw bob has compiled a list of good bad and the ugly parts and suppliers.
Great job too!
Problem is I am still not sure where to get reasonable price/quality cv joints and boots for my 81 hightop westy .
Any help would be great !
Thanks guys

Brickwerks....

They don't sell anything that they wont fit to a customers van.. yes, you might get cheaper.. but you might also have to do it twice..

Lobro from GSF are also very good. They're (apparently) the same as GKN. I've fitted them and had not one peep out of them in 3 years whereas the chocolate ones often don't last six months.

This clearance listing on ebay still live. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GKN-Poa-Cv-Jo ... 876685968?

Says there is one remaining but ask them if they have more as when I bought mine the number remaining jumped back up afterwards.

I bought a couple of these from them and they are in identical box and part no to the Brickwerks ones I had ordered a week or so earlier at a much higher price. Box is GKN Spidan and part no is 22407. I would not have found this auction if I had not had the Brickwerks ones to search the part number on.

The CV Boot is marked Lobro . Spidan and Lobro are both GKN owned brands.

It does pay to do your homework. Its not a hard and fast rule, but generally the better CV joints show evidence of a blue colour close to the bearing faces, evidence that they have been heat treated (hardened) and not made of cheese.

Unlikely they're multihex - splined possibly. All this is in the WIKI you know.
