My 1.9 dg on lpg needs a new engine..where should I go

Post by gingertel »

Help. my boy (1.9dg) has blown his head and needs a new engine. I want a good recon for reliability as long trips with a 3yr old must have happy endings and was hoping someone might point me in the right direction of a source in the south.

Who told you it needs a new engine?
if its a blown head seal it may be fixable
how old is the engine/van ?
where in the south?

if you do need another engine can you fit it yourself?
finally what budget do you have?

the AA guys ( 3 mech's and a relay dude) all told me that its venting exhaust gas into the coolant and causing the overheat (river of doom). Its a recon vege that was installed in 2009 (40,000 ago). I would love to save it and some dosh but don't have the knowledge or room for such a major bit of surgery.

Sounds like head seals, if it was reconed in 09 and its been kept with good coolant chances are the head bolts will be ok, this means it can probably be fixed.
Local is not often not the best option, be prepared to take a day off and drive it* to the right place, get the train home.

two places spring to mind, but i have no experience of either, campershack and elite, do a search on both on here

E D I T * assumes its driveable, if not elite will collect for a price, maybe others will too

Gingertel whereabouts in West Sussex? I'm near Haywards Heath. What year DG motor is it? Early or late one?
Most probably worth fixing, they are one of the best engines, especially when running a well sorted LPG system (stands back and waits for dissent!)

:ok
thanks for responses,

would defo have to stay local(ish) because I can only make it 15mile before problem re-occurs.
FW, we are in sunny Worthing so pretty local to the new heritage warehouse. Its a recon dg 1.9 that we have got and it has been really good. this is our first big prob.
