Lost gears selection

Hi everyone,
New to the forum and new to the T25 experience! I have recently purchased a 1982 T25 T3 which has a 1.9 1Y diesel conversion, but on my first trip out in it, I suffered a broken broken gear shift linkage rod which swiftly put paid to a trip down to north Devon. I have replaced the rod as I managed to acquire a second hand one but the problem that I am having at the moment is that I cannot find all the gears when I put the linkage back together. I can get the 4 forward gears but not the reverse gear. I did find here on the forum in Wiki a article regarding taking the linkage apart to renew the gear linkage bushes but unfortunately, the article is still under construction so there isn't an explanation on how to put it back the correct way. I do have a Haynes manual but again not much help as there is very little information written about putting it back together correctly. I would be very grateful if anyone can give me the correct information on putting this back together, it may save my marriage!!!

Diesel may be slightly different at the front (if it was originally diesel that is)
The 5 speed diesels I have seen have a raised floor in the cab

Yep they do although principles for setting the gear change up after work has been carried out are similar - a bit of 'fettling'

82 diesel van should have the Aircooled gearbox and linkage set up, two balls on the selector on the gearbox

Many thanks everyone. I have been at it all day and have managed to get the gears almost back to norm though, a bit of tinkering will hopefully sort it out tomorrow. I found that the gear linkage bar had been shortened by almost 2 inches to accommodate the the 1.9 diesel engine (early Caddy engine) which obviously sits back in the engine bay further than the original 1.6 petrol engine that it used to have but, who ever welded the gear linkage bar back together couldn't have had any welding experience what so ever!! Special thanks to 'Covkid' your reply was very helpful and useful. Wife planing another trip again so I must be forgiven!!!
