83 Devon rear engine storage?

Post by sblight »

Got this in my 83 Devon T25 and Someone said they're rare and worth considering selling.
My van needs some work doing to get an mot and parts list is getting longer so I'm thinking of selling it. Only thing is, I can't find much info about it? Can't find any that have sold previously or know it's proper name. :(

I think they are called a boot tidy. Definitely rare, you'll regret selling it in years to come.

Really? That rare then. I guess I should keep it then and sort out a wood top for it. I have all the original interior I believe so probably best to keep it.
Just nice to know if something major goes wrong I can cash in to help keep the bus on the road.

rare yes, but pension pot no!

You need this to let the RnR bed rest against it as well.. Trouble is most devon owners will have one (they are hardly likely to break/lose it) and without it you will have to make something to use the bed.

I've spoken to a few people and they've said there's not many about.
Local t25 breaker said hes only had 1 in the last 9 years.
Think I'm going to keep it more as a talking point than anything :) what was the top made of? Some form of ply?

Mine has a piece of carpet covered ply as a lid, original I think. The lid has a hole in it to give you something to pull it up with. The table top is usually stored in the main section, and the table leg fits in a slot in the front section. I'm actually taking mine out and replacing with a custom ply box with a hinged lid when I get time to build it. I'm fed up of emptying the tray and lugging the whole thing out every time I need to get into the engine bay.

I'll probably sell mine, as it's too big to store. I guess they are just worth whatever people are willing to pay, and obviously some people like to collect original stuff.

Looks like someone sold a "new" (repro) tray for £189 last year:-

That's exactly what I thought of building. Saw an image on Google and it looks slightly more usable/convenient.
Might make up a lid for the time being as I have plenty of ply spare here. Then may remove it and build one at a later date if I get annoyed with it like you have. :)
I saw the repro ones. Hard to price up really as like you say, people like original parts.

I was, but now I'm going to keep it (and hopefully in as good condition as it is now) :)
