tie rod balljoint.
have just replaced steerin rack bellows and bushes but I need to replace one tie rod balljoint as I trashed it. doh.the new bit has arrived but it has no split pin or hole for it - simply a lock nut. can anyone help and tell me if this is ok to use or should I return it and buy one with the split pin/lock nut. Haynes says the torque is 30 nm for this nut - would this be the same for a nyloc nut. any advice appreciated.

All the after market ones are the same....no problems with using nyloc lock nuts, although in these critical situations the locknut (apparently) should be changed each time it is removed....in reality, if the nylon still offers resistance to turn, then it will be fine.
Slacken the lock nut, remove split pin and unscrew the castellated nut about half way, hit the steering arm next to the taper whilst levering up the track rod until the track rod breaks from it's taper. Undo the track rod counting off the number of turns, fit the new track rod end, count on the same number of turns, tighten the lock nut.

Besides, they soon go rusty and it won't move at all then.
