problems at speed - running out of time!!

Post by sewhite1982 »

Hi

Can anyone help as I am getting little desperate. On sat, we are going for 3 mnths as far as Albania which currently seems a long way off!!

Van had problem last year, at speed (50+), would start spluttering. But generally fine at low speed. Had carb cleaned/tuned, no change. Eventually new coil and all seemed good, ran fine for quite while. Last week, needed to drop fuel tank to investigate leak when full of fuel. Hose was reconnected but after getting back, van spluttered to halt. I thought had run out petrol so filled up but kept spluttering. Thought may have dragged sludge out bottom tank, so new fuel filter and now fine at low speeds but now exactly same symptoms as had last year ie get to same place on road at decent speed and...splutter. I have had rotor arm, plugs, leads changed. Same.

I am no mechanic so garage is doing work. Each time they return hoping it better but not. Is there any problem which could be particular to T25 which I could suggest to garage. Time is running out!

Thanks, simon

When you cleaned carb, did you clean the cone filter tucked away inside brass fuel inlet pipe on carb? They can be troublesome at wider throttle openings and often get forgotten. You'll need a self-tapping screw to pull it out. Make sure you're getting good fuel delivery at wide throttle openings as a whole too - ie pump & pushrod in good order.

What engine is it? Sounds like fuel starvation. Try the fuel pump it may be ok at low speeds but a weak fuel pump may not be able to keep up with demand at higher revs
You can say alot of of things with "ar"

I would definitely be measuring the push rod length... IIRC it should be exactly 100 mm in length , easy cheap fix if this is the cause.

Hi Paul

Its a 1986. Im in romsey. Thats a very kind offer to look at it. Garage have given it back tonight hoping that they have solved it, I think they've cleaned tank out and fitted a fuel lift pump (?). I will take it out for a good run later and see how it is. Fingers crossed!!

Thanks, simon
