Check Your Spare Tyre

Post by pandp38 »

Not an advert for weightwatchers!

Having owned our camper for 2 years I [wrongly] presumed the spare tyre was ok. Tread was just at legal minimum and pressure ok.

Whilst having another tyre changed today I did a closer inspection of the spare and found the valve stem rubber perishing and the manufacture date on the tyre was 1987. Quite alarming when the camper was manufactured in 1990!

If you don't know the history of your spare , check it out

I would suggest that the spare (as a minimum) is checked when you do an oil change but certainly before going on a holiday jaunt of any kind. It wants checking almost as much as you'd check the tyres you've got on ofcourse, but not many do that. The date definately matters though.
