Westfalia trailer

Post by Strawhead »

Hi all,

Just trying to get the westfalia trailer for an August jaunt to applecross in the highlands, the rubber suspension bushes/ dampers are both perished and need replacing ! Does any one have any thoughts as to where I could purchase these ! Also ideally I would like a spare wheel !! Where would I go about getting an 8" westfalia wheel or even something the same size ??

Any thoughts gratefully accepted

Andy

I have to say, if you're thinking of doing the Bealach na Bà pass to Applecross with a trailer, then forget it. We went over this last Easter, and while it is well within the capabilities of a T25, it is a single track road with passing places and some pretty vertiginous drops off the side. You really would not be wanting to try and reverse back to the nearest passing place with a trailer of any kind in tow.

I,m with clift_d, wouldn't like to try the mountain pass with a trailer in tow.

If you're planning on basing yourself at Applecross for few days, you could still get there on the coast road from Shieldaig with your trailer, and then leave it at the campsite above the village one day when you decide to go over the pass.

Sounds like fun. The coast road is not that much further, and is also very scenic. If you're spending some more time in that area I'd also recommend the Big Sands campsite at Gairloch. Some of the pitches are right in amongst the dunes just behind the beach.
