"Scraping noise" depending on road camber!!!

Post by Flyingchunk »

Just when you sort one thing, something else comes up to stop you working on your house instead!

My Devon has a scraping noise that is coming from the drivers side wheel area.

Weirdly it seems to depend on the camber of the road as to weather it is there or not, and it only appears over 45-50 mph.

It also disappears when...

- I turn the wheel to the right
- I put the brakes on

Any ideas, or where to start looking when take the wheel off? Or shall I just hope to look for the scoring / clean metal?

And no... Turning up the stereo is not an option, fitting that is also on my things to do list (but as it doesn't affect the running of the van it way down the list with speakers!).

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Wheel bearing excessive play perhaps
Jack it and check movement at more than one time on the clockface

Sounds like a sticking brake caliper( if you mean the noise is from the front offside wheel?)to me. find out how freely you can move pads away from the disc, and have a look at the pads ,are they worn unevenly? (one worn more than the other or worn a bit tapered). Could also be dustshield scraping on the disc? check your wheel bearing adjustment whilst your at it.

Whatever it is, if road camber affects it, somethings in't fixed or has play in it.
