starter earth

Post by moggymorgan »

Hi all, sorry for the numpty question , I am having trouble locating the earth strap on the starter motor. I found the one from the gearbox and cleaned it.cleaned the wires on the solenoid. Still turning slowly. I am not that mobile so maybe the starter earth strap is out of sight somewhere. Anybody tell me where to find the thing. Thanks for reading.

The starter on my 1983 WBX earths through the body, and therefore ultimately through the earth strap on the gearbox.

The earth you have found is the earth for the engine and starter etc, if it still slow also check the one from the battery negative to the van under the drivers seat.

When I had problems with mine, to test if it was an earth problem I used a jump lead as a temporary earth direct from the battery to the engine.

Also worth checking the contact between the starter and bellhousing if the temporary earth doesn't change anything.

Good luck

Thanks for the replies. Been looking for something that does not exist, I will try a temporary earth via jump lead, thanks again.
