electric mirrors

Post by OLD ONE »

Sorry folks, help needed again. Just taken the van for a quick spin after it standing a few weeks (doing a few jobs) and found there is a bit of a water leak, not to worried, unless its head leaking  also electric mirrors are not working..Checked Wiki and the Bentley download can find nothing on electric mirrors. Are they fused? if so where can I find it? Or have I disturbed some thing when I had Main Beam indicator light problem? Any ideas please. All ideas and suggestions welcome.

Tony.....Thanks for that. No I did not find that page, of anything resembling it. It was the first time I have used the Bentley since I downloaded it some time ago. So it looks like I did not make a very good job of downloading.

Tonytech Run Bentley download still can not find the offending page, but did find a page with Description and Wire connections explained. This was of some help. Still not working yet.
Checked and cleaned all earths, nothing, so I removed door panel (o/s). Checked wires and worked out the black and yellow is the feed to switch, Dead as a DoDo So I ran an independent live feed to the 2 pin connector under dash( As Bentley page) and everything works. Can only assume now, that it is a fuse problem.
Checked all fuses in panel, all OK. Do you think there a separate in line fuse ? Much appreciate your help so far.
I expect all this help from members is going to cost me a few pints

Had to do a bit of a lash up to get mirrors working. I disconnected the electric window wire connector from the panel and plugged in the mirror wire and found that the mirrors worked OK. So I put both wires in a connector and plugged it back in the panel, now both are working.
Still can't understand why I lost power on the original mirror connector.

Glad you got them working.
It could be a fuse or it could be corrosion on the back of your fusebox.
As far as I'm concerned (and most others) advice is FREE.
Many on here go the extra mile and then some. (read Kilometers if you have some greasy import)
I doubt anyone will run away from a pint or two, but just seeing an other van on the road is reward enough for most of us.

Have you checked mirror wiring where it goes thr A pillar to the door?

The wires can fracture over time with 20+ years of opening/closing door and any chaffing

By moving/fiddling with wires you might have made a contact in the break again, take off the rubber boot(if fitted) and have a good nosey:ok

Elvis... Thanks for tip. All the wiring in doors OK. When I ran a live feed to the 2 pin connector under dash both mirrors worked, so I had lost the original feed to the 2 pin connector. Traced it back to control panel and changed it from it original position. Still can't understand why the original connection failed.
