Cutting out problem
Hello,
When I drive around 60mph say on the motorway, then stop at a roundabout or for testing purposes slip in neutral my van won't idle, it just cuts out. It seems to drive and idle OK if I keep it under 30 but when I start going a bit faster then slow back down again it just won't idle.
I've had the timing checked.
Replaced the vacuum advance....I was hoping this was going to be it, as my old one packed up. Didn't really make a difference.
I've no idea where to start looking.
I took Bonjuk to the mechanic but obviously it's a bit hard to find a problem when you can't see it happening. .....(he did spot the vacuum advance had stopped working though.)
Any one had this before?

Did you mention the engine that's in it, so the experts here actaully stand a chance of 'guessing' what the problem might be

Rotor arm? (non rev-limiter type is best)
Advance retard vac pipes (and connections) just to be sure..
Have you checked the plugs, replaced them.
All vac pipes to anywhere
OK, I'm beat, see if anyone else has had this...
Anyone else, CovKid around

I've had the timing checked.
But now the vac advance is working correctly (presumably) are you sure this is setup correctly.
Does it appear to be running rich, how does it go generally, and have you checked for air-leaks throughout the inlet tract (and related pipework).
Does it burn any oil? Compressions are easy to check.
But I'd start with a new set of plugs if you haven't done already, they might be whiskering up.

What's the mileage of the vehicle?
Have you checked the carb butterfly spindle for play? Maybe grease it up for a temporary testfix if so.

what the vacuum operated choke pull down unit?
where's carb butterfly spindle?
The clock has got 85,000 miles on it but I don' t think it is genuine as the dash has been replaced and so has the engine somewhere down the line (I don't know when)
I doesn't run well in the mornings... have to keep the revs up for about 1min before it will idle.
It definitely cuts out alot more after it's been running for over 30mins.
....so roughly between 1 and 29 minutes after first turning on it runs OK.......
lol

AS Aidan says, get the carb functions checked out... that's wheer both tose items are. And if the carb has done an unknown but probably very high mileage, could be your man
