Cooker

Post by Lakes vw »

Hi, I've a 91 t25 autodrive but never used the cooker, there is a gas bottle attached about 1/4 full. I know you turn the nob round to open the gas. Is there anything else I need to do as I can't seem to get any ignition

Which knob are you referring to? the one on the gas bottle or the one on the cooker ?
Can you hear gas coming out of the gas ring?
How do you know the bottle is 1/4 full? its very hard to tell.

How long have you had the van? I would check the system is safe (or rather have it checked) if you have had it ages and are unsure of its servicability!

There may be another tap along the gas line somewhere. Mine (autohomes) has one in the cupboard just below the grill. As above, very hard to tell if you've got any gas in your bottle.

In-line taps are usually 'on' when turned in line with the pipe. You usually have to push the cooker control nob in as well as turning to 'high' when you first light it.

When I bought the van I think I guy said turn the gas. On at the bottle the he turned a knob by the grill to switch on, I will have to try again. When I rattle the bottle it's heavy and can ear liquid in it so not empty

Easy way to tell if you've got gas in the bottle is to turn the bottle valve on a little when it's not connected. If you've got gas it hisses, if not, you don't.
Or if you are smoking at the time - if you meet your maker when you turn it on, you've got gas!
