We have a Thule tow ball mounted rack that has (and is) serving us well. I have also found Thule's customer service to be excellent when I lost bit's off some roof bars, so probably not the cheapest but built to last. Had a quick look at their site and they do a two bike carrier ( ours was a three)

One thing to remember... With any towbar-mount rack, you're going to have even bigger issues opening the catflap to check fluids than you do with a tailgate-mount one.

That's a much, much, much longer neck than the Thule towbar-mount rack I've got.

No, no need at all. Designed to be that long, it's a four bike one.

Given that the distance that caught me by surprise with it is from the ball to the first bike, I don't even want to consider how much leverage is on the ball...

Thew! For a minute there I thought you would consider...
Have a look at the photo, there is a space for a bike at the van end of the rack. I don't use it due to my spare wheel carrier. Maybe that is giving you a false impression of length.

My lpg fill is behind that flap, not allowed anymore i know but it was presumably done before the regs changed so i will have to be careful of clearance.
also need to get around to wiring up the towbar electrics.

Ivy bus dont suppose you have a pic of the thule one on the van?
halfrauds doesnt look any cheaper so may as well get thule
