Misfiring & lumpy running

Post by tomcourtney »

When changing plugs, 3 were dry but no.2 was oily & gungy.
Continued changed rotor arm, distributor cap, HT leads.
Still misfiring.
Any ideas?

Check the compression. If the bore or rings are sloppy that could explain the oiling up.

You can buy a cheap compression tester for between 10 & 20 quid or get a garage to do it for you for about the same. If the result points to low compression on one cylinder then that might get expensive.

Laid up with man flu so will have another play with the van over the weekend hopefully.
Anyone know a good garage/mechanic in Surrey area. We're living on a boat on the Thames near Chertsey.
