Wheel arch tape

Post by kentishvanman »

Hi,
Has anyone got a piece of tape stuck on the front edge of their n/s wheel arch, the part that is covered by the sliding door when it is open.
It looks as though it has been there since the van left Hanover but I can't see what purpose it serves. Someone said it is to protect the wheel arch from the sliding door???. It is nothing to do with a past repair
I am painting at the moment so want to paint over it or remove it.
I am talking 1988 Autosleeper but if it's a VW thing then others must have one.
Any ideas?

Would it not be on both wheel arches?

I have a twin slider but its still only on the n/s so its nothing to do with the door.
Must be stone chip.
