Part or function not detailed in Haynes or Wiki

Post by SlowWest »

Hi

Can you help?

On an 1981 CU engine, the airfilter is square (reusing the following link I found on the forum, thanks to the uploader
http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y252/p ... engine.jpg

1)Starting from the airfilter There are 2 arms going to the left carb, these come together in some sort of manifold to become one and deliver air to the top of the carb. What is this collecting manifold part called and where can I get one?

2)Still the same engine and airfilter, at the main fresh air intake connection (on the right side, where you put the twisted hose), underneath it there is a rubber ring that makes the connecton to - I think - cylinder head 1. So it looks like the air intake is meant to cool the engine. This rubber ring has dried out and crumbled, I can't read the part number and I don't know what it is called?

3) Still the same airfilter; there is a vacuum connection on the top, rightish, what is that for and where lead to? in the picture that would be where the purple thingy is placed. The connection is bigger than a distributor vacuum lead, yet smaller than an engine breather one.

Plan on buying original VW parts, just don't know where and what to order.

But if you know a resource giving me explanation on this Mann airfilter, i might be able to sort meself out.

Any help much appreciated

Ben

Thanks for the pic, that is some seriously clean engine. I hope this will help in my quest.

1) so the filter splits in 2 arms left and 2 arms right. The 2 arms are then joined into 1 piece, which fits onto the carb. Any idea what the piece is called?

2) The lower part of the air filter unit, has a mounth on which you connect your hose. But also has a part going to the first cylinder. Between the filter's plastic and the engine's metal, you should find a rubber ring. Any idea what the part number is?

3) Just above the writing on the airfilter on the right is a tube protruding, which, in the picture, doesn't seem to be connected either. Any ideas what should fit on that?
