Its corroded. Can I replace it with flat plate or does it strengthen the panel?
Can buy a panel to cut if needed.

Good point, thanks! I didn't think to check the breather tanks but they have a matching moulding on them!
So I guess I'll be buying the replacement panel from vw heritage as recommended by Restoman (thanks).
Planning to cut the section I need from it rather than replace the whole panel and disturb sound joints and underseal.

I bought an offside replacement yesterday but still need nearside. Cuts would be great if no rust. Can you let me know price? I need a rectangle about 50mm bigger than the oval pressing all round. Thanks Mark

Thanks for the photos. I could probably tackle it that route now as well. More time consuming and I'm not sure i could do as good a job as that but an option if I can't get cuts.
