Painting your vans "furniture"

Hi all,

Well the plan seemed good. Tidy up our tired furniture in the Tin-Top with special "furniture and cupboard paint". I researched and discovered that the reviews of the Ronseal product were very poor indeed, but the "International" paint brand got VERY good reviews, except they don't do it in grey, which is what we want

I am tempted to buy 1 of white and 1 of black and try mixing my own grey, but before I do that, anyone got any better suggestions ?

Made and painted (brush and spray) many cupboards/units from mdf and other man made boards to a very high standard. Forget your 'specialist' paint, as long as you abrade the panels down sufficiently then a traditional household paint is perfect for the job. Do not use water based as the brush marks will forever be visible, use oil based instead but thin the coats with white spirit - it makes a huge difference to the finish.

Oh heck, now I have seen this thread = Wood effect on doors peeling and am wondering if that would be a better / easier / safer option

Ive been watching countless vids on removing and replacing veneers, and I was tempted to have a go to be honest. If done right it would be like new.

I also looked at the paints but it seems an option there isn't much going back from.

Aye, fortunately for us, ours is not what I would call a veneer, it is more like "Conti Board" so I don't have to remove anything, just cover with the vinyl. I reckon I am 98% certain now to go that route.

Sorry to put you off your painting idea but I think you will be happy with the result.

Covered mine with vinyl, it was fairly hassle free and looks great. You also have the benefit of a wide range of styles, designs and colours. Additionally it is wipe clean!
