Lost my keys....argggg

Hi
I have managed to lose my keys to my H reg. Does anyone know if VW can get the correct keys cut or know anything I can do? Typically I have left it on the road and just sorned it!

You can either get a locksmith in, who will charge you for gaining entry (pick and decode lock) and then cutting a key for you.
Or
If you have original documentation from new, this may contain the key number.
You can then take this to a good locksmith shop (Not Timpson's) who can use software (Silca/instacode) to obtain the correct cuts for your key from the key code.
This is very easy to do as long as the shop has the software dont even think about going somewhere small or a shoe repairers etc.. they mainly can only do duplicates, you will need a proper locksmiths shop.
This will be the cheapest option.
Or
You could go main dealer route you will require the V5 (& some manufacturers also require the car/van which would mean a low loader!!! - this is because of the amount of thefts of vehicles by people obtaining V5's!)
The dealer will use your VIN number (on V5) to obtain the key number and then will order a key cut to this code.

If you can still get into your van I understand that you can get the key number off the back of one of the lock cylinders, by either taking off one of the door handles, or taking the tailgate lock out. Then you can take that key number to someone and get them to cut a new key from it - I believe you will need an N-profile key.

Correct, but not always the case with locks the lock body is generic and then the cylinder is filled with a number different wafers to make your different combination.
If you can get in yourself then as above you can get a key number by removing the handle.
Obviously if the locks have been changed or you have more than one key for different locks on the van this may not work?
Then take the code as before to the locksmith.
The key should not cost much at all (there is no transponder in these keys) just a lump of metal, under £10.

OK vw say they cant cut the keys from that far back anymore and as I cant get into the vehicle I assume its a locksmith job. Would I need a specialist auto locksmith?

Apparently I am not allowed to look at the link. I have looked on the wiki and apparently dansimpson can cut keys but I cant find him on the membership list....can you help?

One thing to consider is key insurance, i have mine through my JK insurance and it covers any keys that are attcahed to the key ring they provide.

If i loose mine they cover the cost of having all the locks replaced on the van, my house and my car as they are all on one key ring.

Just been through this with my Disco 1, took locksmith a couple of mins to get in.
Pulled off rubber glass seal and then hooked onto lock mechanism.
He screwed up though with the key cos he took a door lock away to cut a new key.
Didn't use as many pins as the ignition, so only opened doors.
I've bought a s/h lock set from a breakers, took 10mins to replace the ignition lock.
Ordered new keys from fleabay and am having a go at cutting my own keys this weekend.
If you need to get access cut a side window rubber with a stanley and replace. New seals are cheap.

You sorted it out yet chap?

If its stuck and needs moving you can get into one and Hotwire it pretty quickly. Only thing that takes time is not breaking the steering lock. You can steal one in about two minutes or fifteen if you own it and don't want to break anything.

Itchyfeet posted me a good photo of the wires required to hotwire the ignition. 2 minutes work, not advisable to put the pic on the open forum though - you never who's lurking!!!!!

As it happened, after an hour of using a coat hanger to try to get in and get the door lock code I asked a T25 owning mate to pop over with his keys and they opened the drivers side door! (most worn barrel I assume) and I was able to get the door code from the barrel - just remember to prefix the code with an N before ordering!
