New OMEGA fuel pump no good - help please

Post by mgbman »

I put up a recent post about my cu engine fuel pump leaking oil from the overflow pipe. I mentioned that the van is parked on a steep driveway with front of van pointing downwards. Oil leaked from the pump and it seemed the pump was worn inside.

I seemed to have a choice either to go electric pump or get a new mechanical pump.

A new mechanical pump seemed to be the easier option and decided to buy the OMEGA pump available from A H Schofield,

Today we put more oil in the engine and yes it flowed out from the pump vent pipe so the fault was definitely there.

We then took the old pump off and it is in good condition apart from the oil leak and the bakelite block looked like new.

We then noticed that the new pump actuating arm is snaller than the original and there is very little arm travel, the original is great and pumps smoothly and the pivot arm has a long and smooth travel.

We cannot see how the new pump would work properly and it looks to be poor design and poor build quality.

What we would like to do is refurbish the old pump and refit it.

Has anyone done this and can you get a parts kit for the pump?

Please help.

We gave up on the mechanical pump idea and went electric.

Removed old pump and fitted a blanking plate.

As advised by bigherb on here, we bought a Facet 1.5 to 4psi pump wired with a tachometric relay (full details on this forum). Easy to fit. cheap and very reliable and the solex carbs have coped with the fuel pressure without a regulator.

Forget mechanical, go electric.
