Gear linkage settings/problems....

Post by toolsntat »

Trying to work through some problems with my early 2l Aircooled gears at the moment.

After a decent run out in the van I started getting whirring noises and some dropping out of 3rd.

Nursed it home and have replaced the 2 very worn bits on the gearbox/linkage area and reset to HAYNES specification (19mm) under gear lever.

After this it would grind trying to get in 2 & 4.

This is where we thought the length of the whole rod may be at fault but could not find any reference to where it should be set to?

At the "splined" joint (all the way in) I extended it by 6mm and this stopped the grinding to get into 2rd.

Looking at how the selector is positioned I doubt more length will help.

Before I dig out the replacement box is there something I am missing?

There is oil in the gearbox.

Cheers
Andy
