if im right the 1.6 d has two temp wires, one at the back of the head and one on the top hose outlet,i would think the AAZ conversion thats been done only requires one :D
if its not broke dont fix it, or i will ;-)

Brown/red is for the auxilliary water pump, only fitted to 1.6TD's
If it is just a single wire then the van must be pre'89 (Metal water housings as opposed to later plastic ones with 2 pin connectors).
The 1.6TD has 3 coolant temperature sensors, one for temp gauge, one for glow plug control and one to operate the relay to kick in the aux water pump when cylinder head coolant temperatures reach 104 degrees C.
Do you have an auxilliary water pump?
I have happily carried out AAZ conversions without using the aux water pump, but if you start to meddle with the engine then you will need it.

Under the left hand front seat is a metal plate, with stamped info on it, if you take a piccie and post it here then I can decipher it for you, this plate holds info such as build date, colour, trim, engine, gearbox codes as well as optional extras.
This is ofcourse taking for granted that the paper sticker above the pedals is missing and you have no service book.

had another look at the engine, i think there is an aux water pump. there is something that looks like a smallish motor with a 3 ( or 4) pin electrical connector, and it has water pipes attached also, 1 of which goes to the oil filter housing, presumably to help keep the oil cooler??

Thats the fella, yours would have been a 1.6TD, JX engine code. It's the best base for a AAZ conversion, but even with a good starting point I have seen some of the "conversions" out there! scarey! lets just hope yours wasn't done by "Sunday Morning Man"!

It looks like its been done pretty well, with a rebuilt engine etc. I am just about to take engine out soon to put in my camper which was a petrol till i removed the engine last week! got a few days work ahead of me, but hopefully it will be quite straight forward!
