Rocker cover leaking

The engine is back in and I've actually fired her up which put a massive smile on my face. The new carbs sounds awesome, although I still need to tune them up but shouldn't take long.

All gaskets seem to be sealing nicely except the right hand rocker cover one. The covers are original and a bit battered, and they did have sealant on the old gaskets when I removed them. Would I be better off keeping these original covers and using sealant again, or replacing for lower quality new covers? And any preferance on sealant if thats the way to go?

New covers, clips and gasket should do the job unless the mating face on the head is scored or battered.

Replaced my rocker cover for new,

The covers have begun to rust already just 7 months in
The new springs were a poor fit and had to be adjusted
Leaked oil all over the exhaust when fitted.

Used blue hylomar to sort out the problem, easier to get off when needed.

Wished I had kept the old ones and gave them a brush and spray

Did you fit the springs the right way round? They do need to be levered over the cover to fit properly.

Usual reminder to buy best quality gaskets (they're not expensive) from a reliable supplier. Cheap ones can be too thin and leak badly and it's amazing how quick the oil pumps out of a useless gasket ( a nightmare).

You also need to ensure that the gasket sits properly, which means making sure the spring sits properly on the rocker cover.

Oh and buy a couple of spares just in case!

Fit OE quality rocker covers..

Use proper gaskets..

Don't use Goop..

Grease will suffice..

Springs on the right way round...'looking sad'

tap the rocker cover with a mallet once the spring is on to make it seat properly..

Should be NO LEAKS....
