AAZ breather pipe connection

Post by halfbakedpixels »

I'm a bit confused as to what the connection in the photo with the red arrow should be connected to?
Can anyone help?
I am also assuming i have an AAZ as i have only just bought this lovely Komet. :)
It seems to have a 1.6td JX fuel pump as well. I'll post more photos of it shortly.

That is the blow out from the safety valve on the manifold. I.e if you get to high turbo pressure, and the waste gate can't regulate it then will the valve open. Normal opening pressure is about 1 bar and normal turbocharger pressure about 0,7 bar. So the answer to the question is that the connection ain't connected to anything, due to that the valve should in normal situation never open.

Nice one cheers, should there be anything on the end like a filter or a pipe down to the floor?

Not best practice to use the JX inlet manifold on the aaz lump mate, inlet ports are totaly diferent.
I would try to get hold of an AAZ inlet manifold, and it hasnt got the blow off valve.

I have only just bought the camper and I'm slowly going through everything and checking.
Not got much experience with any of the t25 engines or the AAZ block. So the person who has fitted the AAZ has used the 1.6td JX inlet manifold? I was tempted in fitting an inter cooler so it may be a good time to change the inlet manifold at the same time. What's the worse that could happen by using the wrong inlet manifold?

Not related to your original question, but I've noticed that your cam belt doesn't appear to have a cover. Any bit of debris flying around (or a finger!) could get under the belt and break it or knock it off. In either case that's the end of your engine, (and your finger, perhaps).
1.9D (AEF) pop-top. Aaaaahhhhh........that's better.

Also a JX manifold tends to leak if bolted to an AAZ unmodified...the valve can be deleted using a block core plug if you want to get rid altogether, and the manifold welded up and re faced to get the ports to match the AAZ.

Yeah good point, didn't have one when I bought it. :(
Wonder if anyone on here has got one?
I have no idea if this inlet manifold has been modified in any way. It seems to drive okay and there doesn't seem to be any air leaks. Does an original AAZ manifold just bolt straight on? Will I need a new gasket? I understand that the inlet pipe is in a different place to the JX one. This isn't a problem as I'll be re-routing the pipe work from the turbo through an inter cooler anyway.

Hi
Iv'e just finished my own AAZ conversion, used the AAZ manifold. The inlet is on the top on the AAZ, i had that welded up and a new flange welded on the side where the JX manifold inlet normaly enters. This makes it look a lot more factory without the worrie of the air leaks that you can get with the JX manifold on the AAZ head.
Its not to big of a job, and you would have peace of mind.
