Was going to hi-jack the "other" topic on this, but decided to start a fresh one.

My "other" van is at last nearing completion in the bodyshop (2+ years :shock: :evil: ).

The "latest" delay is that the guy says his usual window fitter has disappeared and he is now having trouble finding someone to fit the 4 x side windows, (the front and rear screens were re-fitted a couple of months ago with new rubbers).

My question is
= would it be feasible for me to try and find an outfit to do this, or do the "usual suspects" ie, AutoGlass etc, shy away from jobs like this ? Would they have rubbers suitable in stock ? (I could ring around, I know, but thought I would sound out opinion on here first ;))

The van has after market side windows by the way and he reckons the previous fitter carried stocks of various rubbers in his van.
Got a new van, but it's a 165bhp T4 [shock horror] Accurate LPG Station map here

When you say 'after market' side windows, do you mean your van is a converted panel van? If so, Metalmick8y is your man for replacement seals. I've bought a set from him, and a lacing tool, and I believe it is a straightforward DIY proposition.

This has always been a big debate on this van as I am lead to believe that it was a Caravelle. It says Caravelle in the log book and it has OE looking holes in the floor where seats look like they might have been, plus obvious signs of interior rear quarter lamps, but no rear air vents, plus the windows are not recessed, so I think that means non factory. Maybe it was a panel van that was converted to a mini bus ?

Aye, it's not the availability of seals that is the main issue, It's getting this comedian at the body shop to pull his finger out and find a bloke that can just call there and do it as a "one stop shop". Then it's just a bit of a tidy up inside, put my new (to me) Carrat Alloys with the new tyres on, MOT and away we go (hopefully ;))

E D I T = I was just ringing around to find a person to do it and I got given a number of a local guy called Dave. Big coincidence because it turns out he is the guy that the body shop have found and given the job to ! Small world :wink:

Anyway, he has been only yesterday to measure up, he has ordered seals to suit and has promised the glass will all be in by the end of the week !

Jeez, I might even get our "other" van back soon, at last :twisted:
