To replace the decals, or not?

Post by danmetallic »

Image

So our Club Joker is having some insurance work done (after a builders van left a hefty scratch and dent down the side) and all the rust looked at over the next couple of weeks. The respray will mean us loosing the stripes down the side. My question is, shall I bother replacing them? I'll replace the "club joker" decal but not too bothered about the stripes.

Is a club joker and club joker without the stripes?

Worth noting they're about £150 quid as well.

Right... I am very new new to this...but not new to the world,,,, ahem . Lets say I was on the planet when these were born. Point of fact ahem (splitty). There are purists and there are those who want their own touch and there are those who will live in their vans.......use your van for what you want it to be for you and your loved ones, forget the purists point of view they can stripe it up when its their's :) enjoy YOUR VAN my friend.

Forget the decals AND the purists! If you can't tell a genuine westfailure without seeing decals then you should be drummed out of the Westfailure Purists Gestapo. (For those who can't tell it's a westfailure, pop a small sign in a window saying
"No Grill Is Kept In This Van EVER !!)

As has been said, the van is YOURS to do with as YOU wish !! You don't even have to TRY to please anybody else. (Just clear it with your Missus first, and you'll be fine.)
:ok

Regardless of the originality arguments either way, they look good IMO, so I'd put them back on if it were my van. Won't the insurers pay?

Couldn't give the first flying toss about originality, and I think the stripes look daft and dated. So a vote for "no" here. On top of that, I'm not convinced they do any favours for the seams they cover.

Keep 'em.

Helps disguise some of the rust if nothing else

That's given me some pause for thought. Gonna have to wait for the paint, lacquer etc to cure before reapplying any decals do I'll have some time with her "naked" either way.

I tried to live with my van after it was resprayed without the stripes and customising.
After a year I gave up and reinstated them.

I guess you will allways miss them and you will want them back eventually.

I'm so glad you did. It looks much better with them on :)

I'd certainly get the insurance to buy your stripes - and then leave them IN the van. If you do sell, and a purist moans about the stripes, give them to him (or sell them to him).

Simples.

They look a bit dated to me (but not as dated as my Florida stripes!).
