auto tickover
I have an 83 1.9dg with an auto box , last year I changed the choke pull down unit and now it starts as it should, one small problem is it ticks over in neutral and park ok but when its cold and I reverse off the drive the tickover is about 500 rpm and it seems about to cut out, drive it for a while and it goes up to about 900 when in gear ,seems worse when its damp or been raining , any ideas ? thanks jeff

Re: auto tickover
yes kev , press accelerator pedal before starting and it sits at about 2000 rpm , I leave it for a couple of seconds then tap the pedal and it drops to about 900 rpm then put it into reverse and its down to about 4-500 rpm

Re: auto tickover
Sounds like the torque converter is producing too much drag. May be worth trying a change of fluid in the gearbox.

Re: auto tickover
Other than torque converter drag, I can only see it being due to idle control on the engine, not sensing the extra drag of cold fluid. I'm not clue'd up on the DG engine so cannot offer guidance there. May be worth reposting the question without mentioning Auto as that tends to scare people off. Just say that selecting gear causes the revs to drop.

Re: auto tickover
The idle speed on an auto is lower than a manual anyway..ok so it's 850 + or - 50
There is no idle speed corrector on the pierburg, if it's a problem with the idle speed in the first 6 mins of driving then it's simply a fast idle mechanism issue, it may need a fettle to get it right.
use the autochoke spring housing to adjust

Re: auto tickover
Im a bit late coming in on this one, but I have the same. My peirburg had the Bromyard full treatment and Im assuming it is working fine.
Ive overcome the problem (its only while the vehicle is warming up, once warm tick over nice) by using a bit of left foot braking in queing traffic and a little throttle. Not brilliant but I dont want to fiddle with my carb.
