ignition timing 1.9 DG

Hi I need a bit of help,i know how to set the timing my question is with the vacum hose is it plugged or not to set the timing I have looked every place,book,reference I could find.Thanks Rob.

With the dizzy vac hose plugged, timing is 5 degrees btdc.

vac hose is disconnected to time a DG with a strobe
adjust engine speed with the idle screw to 900 rpm
use the V notch on the crank pulley and align it with the engine block casting line

all in the haynes!
AGG 2.0L 8V. (Golf GTi MkIII)
