Hi all.
Just wondered if there was any improvement I can make on the engine to achieve a better mpg, eg spark plugs. Did about 170 miles on a full tank, just seems thirsty. It my be me. Any advice would be great. Cheers

Re: 1.9 petrol water cooled
I'd start by doing a full service , new plugs with correct gap, air filter, rotor, oil change and filter , everything basic to ensure you are starting out right then take it from there. Have you checked to make sure the tank isn't leaking ( common enough problem ) .
Hope that helps a bit .

Depending on how you drive expect around 18-22mpg, apart from what has already been said consider an LPG conversion which will roughly half your fuel consumption.

^^^^ you mean half your fuel costs
Fuel consumption on lpg is the same or slightly higher but the cost of gas is close to half that of petrol

do some obvious checks ,
make sure you have the correct gearbox fitted , tyres are correct size , tyre pressures are correct ect.
what was the co reading at the mot?
make sure vacume pipes are connected and vacume unit on dizzy is working . make sure timming is set correctly , as well as a service as stated above
driving over 55/60mph will seriously increase fuel consumption.
25 -27 mpg is acheable but you have to drive it nicely!

Cheers guys for the sound advice. I have ordered my Haynes manual. Going to have a crack with it all. It takes me back to my first car mark 1 fiesta 23 years ago changing oil etc. I love my bus.
