Solex 34 Pict 4 leaking fuel from throttle flap hinge

Post by ed_the_robot »

Hey everyone.

I've just noticed this happening after getting a thread repaired on the base of the carb...

There is a fuel leak from this pivot point:

I noticed this after a little test run out after refitting the carb. Basically the carb has been off to repair one of the bolts at the carb base. I took the opportunity to clean the carb as it was filthy, and replace the fuel lines. So I am thinking that cleaning the crud away from this pivot of the throttle assembly has lead to the leak becomming obvious.

I've taken a look at a diagram but am unsure whether there is a seal in there that needs replacing. There is some play in the bar the throttle butterfly is attached to, so i am assuming its worn out and now leaking fuel through the bearings.

Does a carb rebuild kit cover this area? Or will it need new bearings etc? Anyone i can send it off to? :ok

The throttle itself doesn't appear to return to idle easily either, and needs "help" from the extra spring you can see attached to a cable tie.

Emissions are perfect, its also driving beautify, but obviously i am not going to use it with petrol seeping past this joint

Thanks in advance! :D

It is a bronze bush, one each side of the butterfly. Could also be spindle wear. I haven't seen any rebuild kits that include the bush but gasure can fit the bushes/rebuild the carb.

Thanks Jim.

Learnt the proper term for that now, throttle spindle

Its certainly worn, nice bit of play on either side. Nice fire risk!

Ive got a link to a good rebiuld kit recommended by sarran1955, like you say though there doesnt appear to be anything for the spindle, whch would probably need machining anyway.

Does anyone know if Roger Ball still refurbs carbs? I found him through the search but there isnt a website?
