Mercedes Double front Seats?

Post by SpongerJim »

Hi there,

We're new here and hoping to get some advice please.

We bought our T25 a few weeks ago and are now planning to make a few modifications over the winter.

Top of the list is to be able to seat 5 people, all with 3 point belts, with a 3/4 R&R bed - so with space for 2 in the back we need to fit a double front seat.

We bought a standard T25 double seat but this needs a bulkhead fitting to support it and also some way to support the shoulder-level mounting point for the centre seat belt.

Today I found some nice looking double seats from a Mercedes Vito W639 and they look ideal - low profile seat base, self-contained 3 point belt for the centre seat and self-supporting to boot!

I am thinking that I could take the runners off the T25 seats and weld them onto the Merc seats.

If anyone has got any experience with these seats or thoughts about whether this is actually possible or any suggestions for other double seats that have an integral centre seat belt and can stand on their own (and fit a T25) then I would be really interested to hear about them!

Many thanks!

the original centre seat came with a lap belt in the middle, which uses the anchour piont for the passenger seat belt and the reating clip is held by the drivers seat belt anchour, there for all I havbe seen people do is bolt/weld a tube across the rear of the seats and the top to attach the seat back to.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'm not keen on lap belts, especially for the kids, so I'm going to have to get creative!

Hey nice work and thanks for sharing the pic!

How did you fit them? Did you weld the tracks from the old T25 seats onto the new bases?

they have a welded frame on the bottom and are then bolted into the track

Thanks for all the info.

Seeing this makes me think i can get something to work the way I need it to.

The vito w639 seats look perfect, I think I'll just buy some and then figure the fittings out.

Thanks again!

One of my vans has a double bench seat fitted and no bulkhead at all, just a thin box profile tube which the back of the seat bolts to. Not sure if this helps!
Why would the glass be anything other than half full?

Balls, I knew someone would ask for pics set some point, not my strong point I'm afraid. It's just a horizontal piece of square tube that attaches behind both the driver's seat and the passenger seat. It sits just below the top of the seat back - simple.

Does anybody have any pics??
