Fixed! Bought van got home wouldn't start!

Dear all,

I'm a newbie and finally bought my first VW camper. Well day van actually rock and roll bed converted from mini bus.

Checked it out, has a couple of body work issues nothing major I do not think, engine sounded nice and drove all way back up M1 home (about 70 miles) no problem.

Tried to start it to move off drive and nothing!!! All lights worked, battery ok. Went for a walk, called the guy and asked him if this had happened before. No was the answer. Concluded and hoped a wire had come away on drive home. Looked underneath starter, saw a wire going under and up and got hold to see if it was secure. It wasn't even connected! Got in back of van, lifted cover and connected it to the spade connector on back of solenoid. Fired up straight away!

Is this a typical first day with one of these beauties?

yeah its normal, on our first trip out the metal coolant pipe came undone, they don't like change

yer mine realy dident like me at first but now im fixing a few pre done bodges on her shes starting to like me after after 4 months iv just found an engine air leak

Yep, it's true, they really don't like change! When I bought my DJ a year ago the clutch went on me on my drive home from the seller!

yep mine was the same,brought her home and the next day drove 5 yards , stopped and refused to start mind of their own these and always one step ahead
