Abn gearbox 5 speed ,selecting 4 speed

Post by Funkyfreshphil »

My problem is if I put a pair of vice grips on to gear selector arm on gearbox, pull arm out and push forward my reverse beeper comes on,if I pull selector out and push back the reverse beeper does not come on.to my knowledge this means it is selecting reverse for a 4 speed set up but has a 5 speed gearbox code ( abn).i have both front sticks but I'm frustrated what to set up.please can anyone help.cheers

reverse is push selector fully into the box and back
fully out and forward is 5th, if the light is coming on in 5th then either there's no washer under the reverse switch or there's play in the selector shaft, probably a broken pivot bush on the shaft itself

if you have a four speed gearstick then getting 1st gear on a 5 speed can be a problem, but should be to the gate, push stick down, go under the gate then backwards, forwards being reverse, 1st and reverse on a 5 speed are the same selector plane
