temperature sender - other makes fit ?

I think I have a dodgy temperature sender and wonder if anything will fit from other vehicles. I haven't time to get one on-line and we don't have a VW Commercial on the Island.

Mine is 87 1.9 DG water cooled petrol.

References on the sender are 12v x 125deg 801/35/1 986

are you sure its the sender? i have a 1.9DG 1985 with an erratic temp gauge and i read somewhere recently that an electrical fault is common in the instrument dashpod..
