Rustoleum on fibre glass hitop

Post by meggles »

I know it's been discussed in the bigger CovKid thread but I'm just wondering:
Has anybody rollered their hitop with rustoleum some time ago? If so is the finish still looking OK? Any problems? Is there anybody who used something else and got a good result? I want to roller, rather than spray. I really want to know from anybody who has done this a while ago, not recently. Many thanks

I did the hull of a fibreglass fishing boat with two pack polyurethane many years ago and it was still good 15 years later. You cannot get as good a finish as with Rustoleum - it is quite orange peely, But for durability I can't fault it. A friend used epoxy paint on his new steel fishing boat ( rollered on also), have to work quick and still get the orange peel effect. Even more durable. If you want shiney shiney Rustoleum must be the way to go but have no experience of longevity.

Did our hightop about two years ago. No problems but yes unless to go to the bother of flatting and polishing it does have a slight texture to it.

Thanks chaps. Think I'll go for the rutoleum then. I've used it before so I am an expert ( ). Seriously I can always flat it over a period of time as it doesn't matter as much as the lower body. I did a small repair to a crazed area a while ago and sprayed with an aerosol of 'near enough' colour so I'd like to tidy it all up. Just need to locate some a/s decals now. Always something to do eh!
