Ignition module??

Post by geordie skydiver »

Ok, so my 2.0L Aircooled has developed the habit of cutting out, normally after about 10 minutes of driving, I thought it was a bad earth on the engine, but I've renewed and doubled that to no avail.

It can drive fine for days, then suddenly it's stalled at 60mph in roadworks. Not happy. :(

A friend of mine said he had the same problem with his Escort and it was the ignition module.

Could this also be true for my 2.0L?

Anything is possible, coil, module etc.
They ain't a fortune new, GS sell them.
I have had a similar problem on a customers van whos ended up being a ignition module.
Strt up first time everytime, run for a while then die, let cool for a bit and up it went again..
pain in the a*** trying to find it i'll tell you!

the thing behind* the ignition module has two 3pin plugs in it. it is an idle stabilisation unit. try connecting the two plugs together and bypassing this pointless thing. it was this that caused my 2.0l to conk out dozens of times, and once it was disconnected, it went fine. :D
good luck

(*when i say behind, i mean further to the rear of the van (and engine) :D)

Changed the ignition module, drove 140 miles since, seems fine. (I had a spare one lying around!) :D

Nice tip about the other box though, I wondered what it was.
