Leaving the fridge on gas overnight.

Post by jamesandtheopenroad »

Fridge has been checked by a pro, and I have a CO detector but I'm still nervous about leaving the fridge running on gas overnight.

Does anyone actually do it, or do the majority chicken out like me?

Absolutely keep it going, once you have it cold keep it there so long as the vent is clear and your co is working no need to worry...

you'll be fine, you most likely get more co from your breath than the fridge.

We spent a week camping with our fridge on gas, you really have nothing to worry about. Our CO detector never went off once and I know it works as we've tested it with a gas heater.

No real worries this time of year with vents and skylights open.

I know how you feel. I was away in my van last week and it took me 3 days to take the plunge and leave the fridge on gas overnight! But having done it once I'll relax about it now. It's taken me a while to have the fridge working and I got a lot of pleasure in the contents being cold!! Small things an ' all that :D

I tried it when I was on my own and not with the family. I was also extremely drunk and forgot and this is why it was left on. Now i leave it on when driving as well.

Ours stays on overnight, windows shut too, but I reckon there are enough 'draughts' in our old bus and it's vented outside. I've even driven with it lit, and it usually stays lit, but if it blows out there's a gas cut off that seems to work well - no smell of gas or anything. Once it's cold, especially in warm weather, I like to keep it cold.

Managed until 2.30am, then woke and switched it off.

Tonight I'm going all the way!

Hold your carbonmonoxide detector near the flue exit and see how sensitive it is. May make you feel better ( or not :D )
