Post by dreder666 »

I have a 1990 1.6 turbo diesel .

can somebody tell me if my cylinder style (shape) air filter housing should have a cover on it.

or not.

I have recently purchased my van and on further inspection I have noticed that there is no cover.

can anybody help me with this matter.

please be kind this is my first post.

thanks in advance.

Hi Mate!

welcome to the club! I know nothing of diesels...but all my petrol air filters have covers!

Guessing this post should really be in technical...the mods may move it!

Bit of an introduction about you wouldn't go amiss either....

BE WARNED - we have stranges senses of humour, love our vans with a passion, have ludicrous discussions aroud bread, and will roll eyes and be offensive at the mere mention oil...unless its baby oil, when we will hit the gutter!

:rofl

Take it all in good humour, and you'll be fine. Hope you enjoy your van and it gives you enough enjoyment to warrent the time and expense you will no doubt lavish upon it!

Welcome!

Not at home at the moment so cannot take a look at my own engine however I would have thought there would be a cover.

Does it have a bap shaped filter, or a finger roll shaped one? if it has a Mothers Pride sliced shaped one I'd sling it and buy a new one. If you have enough bread that is  :run
OK Matron, I'm getting back into bed.

I don't know if it makes it better - I couldn't find a filter box that fitted as I would have liked so I used the K&N - it certainly doesn't restrict it's breathing! It is getting black pretty quick so may need washing every 3 months or so to keep it clear.

yes there is a breather pipe attached that goes up the rear quarter ...

I am sure it must have the cover missing .

this pipe that goes up the rear 1/4 is the main air intake to the filter :D . try taking a new picky and can you point to the area you think something is missing?
