Armed Forces Festival, Aldershot 6th July

aka "military vehicles I have recently fondled in a way inappropriate for a 41-year old man"

Went along to this with my boys and a mate from Signals, who gave us the low-down on a few bits of hardware, all of it painted green or sand:

Blimey those Mastiffs are really quite big and scary when you get up close!

The very new Foxhound. Torsion bar suspension, 3.2 Steyr engine, blast deflection hull, only 8.5 tonnes!

Childhood dream realized. In the hot seat of a FV 432, ever so slightly pleased with myself!

Mate used to command one of these, then we had a converstion about "sell a van, raise around 6k and get one. I'll teach you to drive and maintain it (he has part H on his licence and years of experience) and you can have lots of fun. Neighbours would love it!" Oh dear, this won't end well.
The fuel tank holds 450 litres, btw  I wonder if you can legally run one on red deisel?

The snag is that if you're over 5'9" you can't easily get your feet on the pedals and have a comfy driving position :( That's why they are all driven by Ghurkas!

I do like the idea of doing Part H though...

I've been looking at military surplus vehicle trader's websites...oh dear. This is most unhealthy.

Prices seem to have gone up a fair bit in the years since I had my Rangie (Military vehicle ads in the back of LRO mag)

All that business out East must have increased demand, so now I can't afford one, thankfully!
