Hi
Got a weird one with the headlamps. Here's the back story and current situation.
When refitting the steering column I didn't spot that I had clamped a grey/yellow wire that was heading to the fog light behind the clamp. When I went to check the electrics everything was fine until I tried the lights when the grey/yellow wire shorted and started to burn. I put out the fire out and replaced the burnt out wire.
After this the headlight would not work, but if I pulled on the stalk the right side high beam would flash. The rear lights are working fine.
I then checked the bulbs, all good.
I then checked the fuse box and discovered no power to the headlamp fuses.
I then checked the switch and discovered that r/y had power, but large bl/y had none
I then tracked back to the ignition and found that when switched on there was power to r/b (engine starts) but not to yellow black 'x contact'
I checked the relay and with the ignition off there is power to the red and the black yellow
I then bridged the connection on the ignition plug between the red and the black yellow and black. The relay clicked and when I switched on the lights one high beam came on, clicked the stalk and that switched off and the other one switched on, no low beam. Although the switches are plugged in the dash itself is not plugged in. Dash lights were working when it was.
Any help please?
Thanks
Jon

Re: brainteaser
just stripping the ignition switch now. Quick question. Should the the yellow/black be live at all times except when the x relay switches in the start position?:

Re: brainteaser
ignition switch burnt out on the yellow/black side.
My main concern now is how the yellow/black shorted out so bad it blitzed the contacts in the ignition switch, when the wire that ignited was the yellow/grey. Or was that just the weakest link/thinest wire in the circuit.?

If the ignition is on, yes.

Re: brainteaser
thanks,
How do the lights get juice when you have the ignition off?
