Coolant hose, braided where to get?
Hiya, just been inspecting our vans engine bay. I have just realised why the coolant is constantly low. The three braided hoses that come of the copper coolant pipe have crack in. Does anyone know where to get this from, it's not the same size as the vacuum hose, at a guess it's around 12mm.
Cheers.

It doesn't have to be braided.
Silicon coolant hose can be found in google

Ah right, I only said braided because that's what's on there now. I'm talking about the hose from the coolant filler bottle to the expansion tank, there is currently a piece of braided hose that carries coolant. I was wondering if you knew the size of this hose by any chance? The van is at my GF's dad's so I can't measure just now.

Why do you have a copper coolant pipe

Not sure, doesn't everyone? I thought T25's had a copper one or a plastic one?

I think copper was retired from cooling systems in the thirties

Ah right, well the copper one we have is working well but I assume someone must have made it then, they've done a good job! Is there any issue with using copper?

Re: Coolant hose, braided where to get?
VW G12++ coolant is specifically designed to protect and be compatible with the materials VW use in their engine build. They don't use copper. If you add copper components to your coolant system then you run the risk of chemical or electrolytic reaction taking place and buggering the whole system up. It's not a central heating system, so comparisons to radiators and underfloor heating etc. are meaningless.

Okay, cheers. I'm gonna run the risk for now, we have had the van 6 years and it has always effectively cooled. The only issue we've had is the thermostat housing needing a replacement, that was down to brittle plastic cracking.
Thanks anyway, i'll report back if we ever get any issues.
