1600 CT Aircooled 1981 exhaust

Post by totallyconfused »

Hi,

My vans exhaust has had it. It has two new heat exchangers..2 years old. Hoping i can save these. The rest is shot, or on its way out.

Whats the cheapest/best way to go about this? Aftermarket silencer boxes...do they do away with need for all the other pods after the heat exchangers, or do you need to replace all these anyhow?

Any advice would be great. Cheers.

Hello,

Pictures will help...

A lot of CT exhaust bits are available from Serial Kombi.fr. .. English (ish) spoken.. :)

It is mostly easy to weld repair..

and the pre heat boxes are inter changeable left to right..(cheaper)

The main back box is Bosal or Walker Pattern..

Check the condition of the heat riser tubes(from the drivers end) to the inlet manifold... from the exhaust..

Maybe they have really rusted..

Awaiting photos.. :)

Cordialement,

:ok

Hi,

I am sorry to say the rust is so bad not much to weld too :(

Have sourced some replacement bits...but quite expensive!!!

Hoping to be able to save the heat exchangers...but see how it goes.

let you know when i have had a go.

Thanks a lot. Christian.
