Motorbike petrol tank repair?

Hi,

I have a nasty hole in the bottom of my bike's petrol tank.....only found it when the filler that was in it (and which I did not know about !) started leaking.

I tried the Plastic Padding fuel tank repair epoxy, lasted 10 days before the petrol ate through. Does anybody have any better solutions ? Is JB Weld any better ? I have a suspicion that the bio-fuel in the pump gas these days is eating through epoxy type fixes and slosh sealants.

I know that getting it welded is the best solution, but that's a bit specialist and expensive, and difficult to find someone willing to weld a large potentially explosive thing .

And no, I cant find a cheap 2nd hand one - its a 1988 650cc Africa Twin RD03 and there are only a few in the country.

They're not as bad as you may think - if the MM maestro can't help I can put you in touch with one of my subbies who would be able to help.

There is a special resin that's advertised in the classic bike mags and its fantastic.. Use some Ali mesh if the hole is a bit on the large size.

Don't waste your money have it welded, costs a bit more but if done properly will last years unlike the fillers, then seal it with tank sealer if it's rusty enough to rot it will definitely need sealing.

rubbish mark nothing difficult about doing fuel tanks, hard bit is they are super thin steel , be easier if it was an ally one but.............
