Oil level on dipstick

Post by sternal »

Following on from my dipstick length post I now have this question.

When I check the oil from stone cold IE not used for 24hrs the level on the dipstick is notch 1
Take it for a drive come back wait 10-15 mins to let the oil settle and its just before notch 2

Which is the correct ? In the handbook it says check the oil 10 mins after running/driving the engine !

Or am I being a dipstick !

i wouldn't over think it too much, really you want to check the oil level when all the oil has drained back to sump, so 15 mins plus. Both your readings sound ok so don't worry, be happy :D
